As June approaches the whole security sector is talking about IFSEC International again. It is totally understandable, as the event draws in thousands of visitors not only from the UK but also from much further afield, as exhibitors look to showcase the latest and best our industry has to offer. It is quite a spectacle to behold and fascinating for anyone involved in the security industry, from manufacturers such as TDSi to distributors, specifiers, installers and even (I'm glad to say) a growing number of security savvy end-users.
Trains, planes and automobiles
The change of venue to the ExCel in London was a bold move by the organisers last year, but one that seems to have paid off well judging by IFSEC’s ability to attract increasing numbers of visitors from a broader than ever geography. Saying that, being based in Southport myself (and an Everton fan for my sins!), I know the added travelling distance/time compared to the NEC Birmingham is more of a challenge for those of us in the north of the country (and indeed, those in the west too). However, IFSEC is bigger and better than ever before, so I would encourage anyone based that bit further away from London to take the time to visit.
If you aren't exhibiting at IFSEC; why not take the train? Most main line stations offer access to London and there are fast trains from many northern city hubs which are rapid and efficient. With WiFi facilities on many trains the journey can even be a productive one. The ExCel has excellent access to the main stations in London via the London Underground and Docklands Light Railway (DLR), which are very well organised to bring visitors to the venue quickly (a useful legacy from the Olympics 2012 infrastructure). Many of the exhibitors from across the UK have continued to appear and have embraced the advantages of the change of venue, which has led to a rich mixture of visitors and new potential customers.
Reaching out to the North
TDSi is very mindful of its commitment to partners and customers in the northern parts of the UK. Despite our headquarters being in Poole, in Dorset - right on the south coast, we have demonstrated our commitment to all of our customers, regardless of location by operating a Northern Training Facility in Warrington. Rather than just relying upon our mobile and highly active account team, we felt a dedicated facility is not only highly practical but also demonstrates we are serious about supporting our partners and customers across the country. Many of us at TDSi have a broad experience of the security industry, so we understand that as a supplier that really engages and supports its partners, we can make a huge difference to their business.
This commitment extends to our participation with our distribution partners too. For example, earlier this month TDSi appeared at the Midwich Technology North event at the Royal Armouries Museum in Leeds (a rather apt location for a security provider!). My colleagues will also attend the Norbain Roadshow North in Bolton on 2nd July.
